here is a quit historic timeline i found of this property for reference.
1787: The land was formally granted to early settlers during the Spanish era.
Late 1700s-early 1800s: Joseph Laurent, a merchant, acquired the property and built a residence and trading post using bricks made on-site. The land was used for producing lumber and other building materials for New Orleans.
1901: The Salmen Brick and Lumber Company acquired the property.
1924: The company donated 72.5 acres to the Boy Scouts of America to be used as a regional camp. This was inspired by an event where a Boy Scout famously refused to accept a tip from Fritz Salmen.
1956: Fritz Salmen's son, Fred, donated an additional 35 acres to the Boy Scouts.
1983: The Boy Scouts sold the property back to the land trust.
2001: St. Tammany Parish, in partnership with the Trust for Public Land, purchased the property to preserve it as a nature park.
2011: Camp Salmen Nature Park opened to the public.

Now that we have that little bit of history out of the way. Here ...we ...go. I absolutely love this park. Truly do not have much to say negative. It is FREE to the public and is a part of the St. Tammany Parish bike trail that spans 30 miles of the Northshore. You can see that there are team members who actively up keep this park. It is very clean and STROLLER friendly. It boasts a boardwalk, kayak launch, bathrooms, pavilion, vending machines, bike trails, and a 2 mile hiking trail through some beautiful pine trees. This park is is a must see and I happily drive the hour to see it at least once a month. Again this is located in Slidell LA, and i really do not have anything negative to say about this place. I would defiantly recommend

it.
